Modify from the previous version IKEv1, IKEv2 is a new VPN protocol and has lots of improvements then the former. It is more stable, more secure and faster connection establishing speed. Support MOBIKE (Mobility and Multihoming) protocol, IKEv2 provides stable connection when the device is in a variable network environment. For example, when you are taking the train and connecting the IKEv2 VPN tunnel from the mobile phone, this new technology will reconnect the VPN tunnel when your phone swap between different cell sites, providing an uninterrupted and encrypted data transmission. Support newer and more complicated secure ciphers, such as AES 256 and 3DES, to make the connection more secure. Using new connection progress and discard the PPP, IKEv2 provides the faster establishing speed.

Since firmware version 1.3.0, Vigor3900 and Vigor2960 start to support IKEv2 VPN tunnel, users can benefit from this new supporting VPN protocol. This application note demonstrates how to establish IKEv2 VPN connection between two Vigor3900 by following topology.
