How to register a CPE to VigorACS 2 server?

VigorACS 2 is a central management solution of the Vigor devices. Network administrator can register the Vigor device to the VigorACS 2, then monitor and manage all the devices on it. VigorACS 2 uses TR-069 to commnunicate with Vigor devices. Network administrator will need to enable TR-069 access on CPE, then set up TR-069 configuration. In addition, STUN setting is required if CPE is behind a NAT device, for the purpose of keeping the connection between VigorACS 2 and Vigor device up.

Network group setting of VigorACS 2

First of all, make sure the Network group setting on VigorACS 2 server is ready. You could go to SYSTEM MENU >> Network Management to create your own network group (which you want the CPE to join) then specify the username and password of this network. Please keep the username and password of this network in mind.

Configure on Vigor Router

1. Go to System Maintenance >> Management page to enable Allow management from the Internet, and check TR-069 server.

2. Go to System Maintenance >> TR-069 page, and set as below:

  1. Enable TR-069
  2. Select the interface where the ACS server locates as ACS Server On
  3. Click Wizard button, then enter the IP address or domain name, port number of VigorACS 2 server on the pop up window, with the handler /ACSServer/services/ACSServlet. It is strongly recommended to use HTTPS protocol so that all the communication between CPE and VigorACS 2 will be encrypted.
  4. Enter the Username and Password of the network group on VigorACS 2 you would like the router to join.
  5. Select the HTTPS protocol for CPE Client
  6. Enable Periodic Inform, in this way, router will keep sending its status
  7. Click OK to save the above setting.

Note: If you couldn't find the TR-069 enable option at step a. Please find and enable the option at CPE Client.

3. After the configuration is completed and saved, we may click Test With Inform button to check the communication with VigorACS 2 server. The green light indicates the test inform has sent to VigorACS 2, and CPE got the success reply, which means the communication is smoothly established.

Configure on Vigor3900/2960

1. Go to System Maintenance >> Access Control page to enable TR069 Allow on the Internet Access Control field.

2. Go to System Maintenance >> TR-069 page, and set as below:

  1. Enable TR-069
  2. Select the interface where the ACS server locates as ACS Server On
  3. Enter the IP address or domain name, port number of VigorACS 2 server with the handler /ACSServer/services/ACSServlet on the ACS Server URL field. It is strongly recommended to use HTTPS protocol so that all the communication between CPE and VigorACS 2 will be encrypted.
  4. Enter the Username and Password of the network group on VigorACS 2 you would like the router to join.
  5. Select the HTTPS protocol for CPE Client
  6. Enable Periodic Status, in this way, router will keep sending its status
  7. Click OK to save the above setting.

3. After the configuration is completed and saved, we will get the communication result with VigorACS 2 server. The green light indicates the test inform has sent to VigorACS 2, and CPE got the success reply, which means the communication is smoothly established.

Configure on VigorAP

Go to System Maintenance >> TR-069 page,

  1. Click Wizard button, then enter the IP address or domain name, port number of VigorACS 2 server, with the handler /ACSServer/services/ACSServlet. It is strongly recommended to use HTTPS protocol so that all the communication between CPE and VigorACS 2 will be encrypted.
  2. Enter the Username and Password of the network group on VigorACS 2 you would like the AP to join.
  3. Enable CPE Settings and SSL(HTTPS) Mode
  4. Enable Periodic Inform, in this way, AP will keep sending its status
  5. If the VigorACS 2 is on the internet, Enable the STUN Settings and enter the Sever Address and Port of ACS server
  6. Click OK to save the setting

After the configuration is completed and saved, we may click Test With Inform button to check the communication with VigorACS 2 server. The green light indicates the test inform has sent to VigorACS 2, and CPE got the success reply, which means the communication is smoothly established.

Check on VigorACS 2

Finally, we will see the CPE appears on the New Device widget from VigorACS 2 >> Dashboard, page and we may click the "+" button to add the device to the network.

What should I do if the CPE is behind NAT?

If the CPE is behind a NAT device, and VigorACS 2 server is on the internet, VigorACS 2 server will not be able to locate the CPE. Network administrator will need to add an additional settings, to enable STUN (Session Traversal Utilities for NAT) on CPE. In this wat, CPE will estalish and keep an UDP session to STUN server alive, then VigorACS 2 can use this UDP session to locate and communicate with CPE. VigorACS 2 can act as a STUN server, please setup the STUN setting on TR-069 Setting page of CPE:

  1. Enable STUN Settings.
  2. Enter IP address or domain name of VigorACS 2 server in Server Address.
  3. Type the STUN port, default port will be 3478

How to apply TR-069 setting to multiple VigorAPs automatically?

If there are multiple VigorAPs in your network and connect to Vigor router, we could enable "Apply settings to APs" on System Maintenance >> TR069 page of router:

  1. Enable this feature
  2. Enter the AP Password
  3. Enable Apply Specific STUN Settings to APs and enter the specific STUN Server Address and Port if needed

After saving these settings on Vigor router, all the VigorAPs, which are connected to this Vigor router, will be applied the same TR-069 setting automatically as Vigor router.

Why I cannot get the inform successfully (Green Light)?

If you cannot get the CPE to register successfully, please follow the belows instractions to troubleshoot:

  1. Check the setting on ACS server:
    • HTTP or HTTPS port of ACS server should be opened, the default port number is TCP 80 or TCP 443.
    • STUN port of ACS server should be opened, the default port number is UDP 3478.
    • No access list be configured.
  2. Check the setting on CPE:
    • On System Maintenance >> TR069 page, confirm that the username and password of CPE matches the network of VigorACS 2 server.
    • STUN setting configured correctly.
    • No firewall rule blocks the outgoing packet.
