Q. What are the appropriate WAN inbound/outbound bandwidths you had better to set in QoS settings ?

The WAN inbound/outbound bandwidths are set according to the actual transmission rate offered by ISP, but the real throughput depends on the local network environment or quality of infrastructure. Therefore the inbound/outbound bandwidths are recommended to set 80-85% of physical network speed to maximize the QoS performance.

Take DrayTek Vigor Router for instances:

- When using Vigor2900 Broadband Router, if the bandwidth that ISP offered is with downspeed 8Mbps and upspeed 640Kbps, the QoS WAN Inbound/Outbound bandwidths we suggest are

WAN Inbound Bandwidth = 8000 * 80% (or 85%)= 6400 ~ 6800 Kbps

WAN Outbound Bandwidth = 640 * 80% (or 85%)= 512 ~ 544 Kbps

- When using Vigor2600V ADSL Router, Vigor itself will auto-detect the bandwidth and count the appropriate value.
