Q.
How to block the MSN Messenger ?
1.There are two ways to block MSN Messenger.
One is to block TCP port 1863 and TCP port 443.
The other is to block MSN login server IPs if you don't want
to block TCP port 443 (used for https connection).
Here are the IPs that need to be blocked:
65.54.239.140
66.54.239.141
65.54.239.211
65.54.239.20
If you use MSN Messenger 7.0, please also block IP 207.46.110.249 for the login mechanism changes a little in this new version.
When client fail to login server, it will contact IP 207.46.110.249 (gateway.messenger.hotmail.com) and IP 207.46.110.249 will offer it another login server's IP.
If it is not successful, please try to block IP 65.54.239.0
with netmask 255.255.255.0.
If the above ways are not effective, please try to capture packets to check the login server IP you use then block it.
