How to setup WDS function ? ( Repeater mode )

Note: only Vigor2600plus, Vigor2800 , Vigor2900V and Vigor2910 series WLAN Router support WDS Repeater function.

Jack has implemented a Wireless network in his house since he does not want any wired cables ruin the house’s internal fitment.

But there is an intractable problem that several client machines fail to receive the WLAN signal from the AP due to the obstacles and the distance.

Hence, he may need a little extra help to boost the signal to the clients.

As the figure above, Bridge 2 and Laptop A are failed to reach the Bridge 1’s WLAN coverage. [ Vigor2910VG for example ]

Step 1. Suppose that Bridge 1 and Bridge 2 have been configured. Please refer to the link for ways to configure bridges.

Step 2. Make sure that the Repeater is in the same subnet with the two Bridges.

Step 3. Wireless LAN >> General Settings page. Set the Repeater to use the same channel with the two Bridges.

Step 4. Wireless LAN Setup >> WDS Settings. Select Repeater for WDS operation mode.

Step 5. Select the same Security Mode that is set in the two Bridges, and type in the same WEP Key/PSK, as well.

Step 6. Find the related WLAN MAC addresses on Bridge 1, Bridge 2 and Repeater’s web configurator.

Step 7. In the Repeater, go to Wireless LAN >> WDS Settings and enter the both Bridges’ MAC addresses.

In both Bridges, add the Repeater’s WLAN MAC address

Then the wireless signal will be successfully forwarded to the Bridge 2 and Laptop A from Bridge 1.
