How to remotely trigger " Wake-on-LAN (WOL) "
?
"Wake on LAN ( WOL )" is a method
to boot your PC ( turn on )while the PC stay on idle or standby
status. The PC boot up automatically through receiving a special
"wake up" packet on its ethernet
interface. It is useful if you are away from home but you
need to access your computer to grab some files stored in
PC remotely.
The special WOL packet can be sent across your LAN, or to
your network across the Internet to Vigor router. When the
router receives the WOL packet, it can forward it onto the
required PC. ( Please notice the PC NIC should support WOL
,too )
Be noticed that because of the PC is sleeping,it does not
have an IP address. The first step you have to assure and
identify the PC by its hardware 'MAC' address. Each computer
has its own unique Mac address.
You can find MAC address from the MS-DOS command prompt with
"ipconfig /all".
Second, you need to inform the router of the IP address which
is given to this PC that you want to wake up. (Note: Wake
on LAN integrates with Bind IP to MAC function, only binded
PCs can wake up through IP. )
1. Bind IP to MAC
IP-Mac binding presets DHCP Allocations. Enter the required
Mac address ( 00-90-CC-9C-BC-47 ) of the PC. You have to bind
the specific IP with the Mac address. Otherwise, when the PC
boot up, the IP address will change by DHCP allocation.
2. Triggering WOL
