Support Center FAQ Vigor3100 series

Q. How to set two Vigor3100s in back to back bridging mode ?

With back to back bridging mode you may extend a hardware port from the gateway to a remote location and allow several computers there to access the network and the internet via the gateway.

Please refer to the figure show below. With back-to-back bridging mode, you may extend the network of Building A to Building B.Then both sides are within the same subnet and can access each other transparently. By setting the gateway to 192.168.1.254, the computers in Building B can also access the Internet.

Steps for setting up back-to-back bridging mode :
1. Configure SDSL line parameters for CPE side.
2. Configure bridging mode for CPE side.
3. Configure SDSL line parameters for CO side.
4. Configure bridging mode for CO side.
5. Check the connection status.

For detailed settings please refer to the following instructions :
1. In CPE side, select the Annex Type via Internet Access >> DSL settings. The Annex Type on both Vigor3100s should be the same. And we could select the sync rate to be fixed or adaptive.

2. Configure Encapsulation as 1483 Bridge mode, input VPI, VCI and select the proper Modulation. Encapsulation, VPI and VCI value should be the same to both sides. Please tick "Enable Bridge Mode" for both Vigor3100. Please note in this case the status of "MPoA ( RFC1483/2684 )" is Disable. The "WAN IP Network Settings" field will be grayed.

3. In CO side select the Annex Type via Internet Access >> DSL settings. The Annex Type on both Vigor3100s should be the same. And we could select the sync rate to be fixed or adaptive.

4. Configure Encapsulation as 1483 Bridge mode, input VPI, VCI and select the proper Modulation. Encapsulation, VPI and VCI value should be the same on both sides. Please tick "Enable Bridge Mode" for both Vigor3100. Please note in this case the status of "MPoA ( RFC1483/2684 )" is Disable. The "WAN IP Network Settings" field will be grayed.

5. Check if the DSL status is Show Time via Online Status page.

6. Setup all the PC of Building A and Building B within the same subnet 192.168.1.1/24, and point their gateways to 192.168.1.254.

If you'd like to distinguish the networks between Building A and Building B but still make Building B accessing Internet via Building A, Please refer to the figure and the configurations shown below. In this scenario, computers in Building B can access computers in Building A. But computers in Building A cannot access computers in Building B.

Steps for setting up back-to-back bridging mode:
1. Configure SDSL line parameters for CPE side.
2. Configure MPoA 1483 Bridge mode for CPE side.
3. Configure SDSL line parameters for Co side.
4. Configure bridging mode for CO side.
5. Check the connection status.
The Configurations for CO side is no change. Only the CPE needs to be configured in MPoA bridge mode.
